In what condition can I expect to receive my rental books?

We try to hold each book to the highest standards. All of our rentals have little to no highlighting or underlining, with all pages and the cover in strong cosmetic shape (binding intact, all pages intact). Our inventory must meet a minimum of "Good Condition" under our Condition Guide in order to be rented to our customers.

In what condition is my rental considered damaged?

Books with water damage (crinkled pages or stains) are automatically considered damaged. Additionally, excessive highlighting and writing is also considered "damaged" seeing as the markings are distracting from the text and the book can no longer be rented out. Your safest bet is to minimize highlighting by using sticky notes, index tabs or other page holders.

How does renting work?

Renting textbooks is a lot like renting a movie. Instead of paying the full price and keeping an item, you only pay a fraction of the cost with an obligation to return it in good condition.

Which items are not rentable?

Some items do not qualify as "Standard Reusable Course Materials", and cannot be rented. Some of these materials include, but are not limited to:

  • Workbooks and Lab Manuals
  • Online Codes and E-books
  • Custom Published Material
  • Annual Publications
  • Older publications

Can I highlight in my rental?

Yes we do allow limited highlighting. However, because we won't rent heavily highlighted books to future customers, books that are returned with excessive highlighting and writing will be subject to a $15 highlighting fee. If the book needs to be fully replaced, the buyout price of the item will be charged.

What is the length of my rental?

The due date of your rental will be displayed on the shopping cart page before you check out. You can see a list of our due dates on the Important Dates page

How do I convert my rental to a purchase?

For those not renting on the Rental Plan, you will only pay the difference of the purchase cost and the previously paid rental price. For customers wanting to convert Rental Plan books to a purchase, see "How do I convert my rental to a purchase?" under the Rental Plan tab.

Renting and Access Cards

Textbook rentals will NOT include access cards. In some cases the official title of a book (created by the publisher) will mention an access card (i.e. Calculus with Access). If you are renting such and item (or buying it used) no access card or code will be included. Access cards are purchase only items as they can only be used once.

What semesters are covered under the Rental Plan?

The Rental Plan covers all rentable textbooks for fall, spring, and summer semesters, up to $1,000 total list price.

Which materials are not covered in the Rental Plan?

Not all items are covered under the Rental Plan and must be purchased separately. We try to rent out as many books as possible but some items, such as workbooks and custom published materials, are used only one semester and therefore must be purchased. Some of these materials include, but are not limited to:

  • Workbooks and Lab Manuals
  • Online Codes and E-books
  • Custom Published Material
  • Annual Publications
  • Older publications

Can I highlight in my rental?

Yes we do allow limited highlighting. Can I convert an item to purchase later in the semester?

Yes. When you convert an item to a purchase, the book will be removed from your Rental Plan, and the list price of the book will be added back to your remaining list price amount. You will only be charged the list price of the book plus tax, no additional fees.

What if I exceed the $1,000 list price allotment?

If you exceed the $1,000 list price limit on the Rental Plan, you will only pay 40% of the list price for any additional items.

What if my schedule changes?

You have until the last day of add/drop (See Important Dates) to add or remove books on your order. Just log into your account to update your order. If you need to return books after they have been delivered, you will be prompted to select a drop off date. Schedule changes are free of charge for Rental Plan customers!

What is the Rental Plan?

At a flat rate, the Rental Plan covers books for the fall, spring, and summer semesters, up to $1,000 list price.

How do I add books for the upcoming semester?

Before the upcoming semester, we will send you an email to let you know that the book lists have been finalized. At this time you should enter your schedule, as well as select a delivery or pickup date. In one visit to the website, you'll have everything taken care of before the start of classes!

Rental ReturnsTop

When are rented items due?

Please see the Important Dates page for rental due dates. If you have already ordered your rentals, you can see your due dates on your My Account page under the "My Rentals" section.

What if I miss the deadline for returning my rentals?

If any rentals are not returned by the due date you will be charged a 15 day extension for each item not returned. After the 15 day extension you will be charged for the remaining balance of the books.

Should I schedule my return early?

Yes, schedule your return as soon as possible! As routes fill up, they will be closed, so the earlier a return is scheduled the more windows will be available. You can always schedule your return before your finals are over, just select a date after your last test.

How do I schedule my return?

With a couple of weeks left in the semester, you should log into your account, click on your rental order, and pick a date in which you want to drop your books off or have us pick up them up.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver to all apartments, dorms, and housing in 78705, 78741, and 78666 zip codes during the extended return period (see Important Dates). See our tent times and location.

What orders qualify for free delivery?

We offer free delivery for orders greater than $75 and in a 78705, 78741, or 78666 delivery zone.

I don't live in the delivery zone, can I still get books from WCB?

Of course! We have a pickup and drop off tent located near campus that will be open on selected days during all busy times of the year, including the beginning and ending of each semester. Any order can be picked up or dropped off at this location. You may also choose the delivery option and enter an address within our delivery zones, then just meet the driver at this location during your 20 minute delivery window.

What if I miss my scheduled delivery time?

If we are unable to reach you during your scheduled window, your delivery will be skipped and you will be charged a $5 rescheduling fee.

If a conflict arises, can I reschedule my delivery date?

Yes, call us as soon as you are aware of the conflict and we will reschedule your delivery date. All reschedules must be received before noon the day of the scheduled delivery.

2-3 Hour Delivery Time Frame

We assign each delivery a specific 20 minute window in which you can expect our driver to be at your address. You will be notified the day before of this window to ensure that deliveries run smoothly and efficiently.

If conflicts arise with this 20 minute window, you have until noon the day of the delivery to reschedule by contacting us. Otherwise you will be charged a rescheduling fee.

Routes are set the day before, therefore, orders placed within 24 hours of delivery will not receive a 20 minute window and these customers should expect to be available during the entire delivery time frame.

Can I pick up my order?

During busy times of the year (the beginning and end of each semester) we have a tent located near campus where you can pick up or drop off orders. At other times during the semester, orders can either be picked up from our S Austin Warehouse or delivered on selected days.

I received a poor condition book, can I get a replacement?

Of course. We do our best to ensure that each book meets our minimum condition requirements but sometimes a few will slip through the cracks. Simply contact us and let us know that your book was in poor condition and we'll find you a replacement as soon as possible.

Do you buy back all condition books?

For the most part yes. However, if a book is in "poor" condition, we will only offer a percentage of the offering price for that book. Books in "unacceptable" condition will not be bought back.

RefundsTop

If I drop a class, can I get a refund for those items?

Yes you may request a refund for any reason within the returns period for that item. All items not purchased or rented within the Extended Returns Period must be cancelled, returned, or postmarked by the second day after the invoice date. Please see the Important Dates page. Extended Returns Period: All items purchased or rented during the Extended Returns Period may be cancelled, returned, or postmarked by the last day of the Extended Returns Period or the second day after the invoice date, whichever is later. Will you pick up my refund order from me?

If you live within the delivery zones we will pick up your refund order for a pickup charge of $5. Otherwise you can drop off any refunds or exchanges at our tent location. See our tent times and location.

Can I return an access code or custom printed course packets?

Unfortunately we can't accept any refunds for access codes, or custom printed course packets as these sales are final at the time of purchase. Additionally, any books that were in shrink wrap and have been taken out of the shrink wrap will be refunded at a discount price as the items are no longer new.

Selling (Buybacks)Top

Once I schedule a buyback will my offer change?

No! If you complete a buyback order and schedule either a pickup or drop off you will receive the offer you were given (granted that the book is not in "poor" condition). Our prices will fluctuate but if you have committed to selling your books on a specific date, we will commit to you and honor that price.

If my finals are at the end of the week, can I get the prices I see now?

Yes. Simply enter all your books on the website and schedule your pickup or drop off date for after your last final. If you do not schedule your buyback the prices may change and you will get the current buyback price for each book.

If my book is in poor condition will you buy it from me?

If a book is in "poor" condition, we will only offer a percentage of the offering price for that book. Books in "unacceptable" condition will not be bought back.

I missed my buyback pickup can I reschedule it?

Yes you may. However, you will need to create a new order, which may result in different buyback offers. Orders that are not picked up or dropped off on their scheduled date are deleted from our database.

If I can't be home for my buyback, can I have a friend do it for me?

Yes, as long as you feel comfortable having your friend receive the cash for you. Simply let us know your friend's name and phone number so we can reach them when we arrive.

Do you buy back international or instructor editions?

We can only pay half for teacher's editions, and we do not buy international editions.

Will you pick up my buyback order from my address?

Yes, if your buyback order meets the pickup minimum and your address is within a designated delivery zone (on selected dates). Otherwise you can schedule and bring your order to our tent located near campus during busy times of the year.

What is an ISBN and where can it be found?

The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) uniquely classifies each book and ensures that you are identifying the correct book and edition. The ISBN is usually a 13 (or 10) digit number that is located on the back cover where the barcode is and often starts with "978." It can also be located on the book's title page.

In order to rent, buy, or sell textbooks through West Campus Books, you will need to create an account. Your account will keep a record of your order history, order information, and other important details. Accounts are created in one easy step.

What is West Campus Books?

West Campus Books is a local bookstore created for students, by students. We found a way to significantly reduce the cost of textbooks while making the whole process easier and more convenient. As an online bookstore that offers free delivery, we make it easy for students to order, monitor, and manage their course materials without ever leaving the comfort of their own home.

What does West Campus Books offer?

WCB offers low prices, more options (renting, new copies, used copies), a larger selection of used books, a Rental Plan, more convenience, free delivery and pickup, online material management, and a student staff who wants to make you happy!

Do you have a store front location?

No, we do not have a physical store front location that customers can visit. By operating as a virtual store, West Campus Books is able to drastically reduce costs, pass along savings to students, and offer textbook options, such as the Rental Plan, that brick and mortar stores are unable to offer. However, during busy times of the year (the beginning and end of each semester) we have tents located near campus where you can pick up or drop off orders.

How do I apply a gift card to my order?

Using a West Campus Books gift card is simple:

  1. Create an order.
  2. On the checkout page, you will have the option to apply a gift card to your order. Simply enter the gift card number in the "gift card" field.
  3. Your card balance will be automatically applied to your order before you pay.

If your order total is less than the amount on your West Campus Books gift card, the remaining amount will be available on your card for future purchases.

If your order total is more than the amount on your West Campus Books gift card, you will be able to enter a credit card to pay for the remaining balance.

Can I check the balance on my gift card before paying for my order?

Yes. You can do this at our check gift card balance page.

Restrictions

All gift cards are promotional gift cards. Only one promotional gift card may be used per person, per year. We reserve the right to cancel any order and remove the promotional gift card value if misused.

ShippingTop

Which orders qualify for free shipping?

Orders of $100 or more qualify for free Priority shipping. Shipping rates for non-qualifying orders are $4.95 for the first item and $1.00 for each additional item.

When will my books be shipped?

The estimated shipping date will be shown during checkout when choosing your method of delivery. This is the date in which we anticipate your books will be shipped from our facility.

How long will it take to get my shipped books?

According to USPS, Priority packages arrive 2-5 business days after being shipped. Packages with destinations inside Texas usually arrive within 3 days of being shipped.

Shipping Rental Returns

The due date for your rental items is the date in which your items must be postmarked. Items not postmarked by this date will be charged for a rental extension.
